CONTRIBUTING ORGANISATIONS
The principal aims of the GUAN are to ensure a relatively homogeneous distribution of upper air stations that
meet specific record length and homogeneity requirements outlined by GCOS, and make available their current and historical
data for climate research.
The World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) and the
Global Climate Observing System (GCOS) act on information
provided by the monitoring and analysis centres to feedback to contributing members and encourage them to provide
station data to the GUAN.
The Met Office, Hadley Centre
of the UK develop upper air datasets
for use in climate research.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) of the USA, update
and quality control daily upper air data and historical metadata as part of the
Integrated Global Radiosonde Arhive (IGRA). The
World Data Center for Meterology (WDC) holds the GUAN archive.
The European Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasts monitor the
receipt and quality of daily TEMP data.
